1. What is PTSA?

The Parent Teacher Student Association is a volunteer association where parents, educators, students, and other citizens can be active in their schools. The main role of the local PTSA is to build strong working relationships among parents, teachers, students and schools, in support of students and teachers.

2. What does it mean "to join PTSA"?

We ask parents for a $6.00 membership price. From this amount, $3.50 goes to the State PTA, and a total of $35 goes to Duval County Council PTA, so Atlantic Coast High School PTSA keeps less than $2.50 per membership. This is why PTSA relies heavily on fundraising and donations to help support the school.

We use that money to:

  • Provide scholarships to our students
  • Provide Eyeglasses for those students who cannot afford them
  • Provide Senior Breakfast to the graduating Class
  • Provide Back to School Breakfast for the Teachers and staff
  • Provide Teacher’s Appreciation Luncheon for the teachers and staff
  • Provide Treats during Teachers appreciation week to all the teachers and staff

3. How do we know that PTSA money is really being used for our children?

Any parent is welcome to participate in any PTSA event. Our records are not confidential and we would be glad to explain PTSA money distribution to anyone.

4. Can anyone volunteer and help at school?

Yes. We welcome anyone who can assist us! To ensure the safety of our students, volunteers must complete an application and undergo a criminal background screening, free of charge.  You can apply athttps://dcps.duvalschools.org/domain/10569. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes.

5. Can anyone become a member?

Yes. Anyone, including students, can be a PTSA member. A strong PTSA needs the support of parents, students, family members, teachers, school staff, and community members. Anyone who cares about children belongs in the PTSA!

6. Do we have to volunteer in the school to be a member?

No. The PTSA appreciates everyone’s membership, whether or not a member volunteers. You are NOT REQUIRED to volunteer any time for our events and/or fundraising.

7. How do I become a member?

You can join at  open house, here on the website  or pick a form up at the main office and return it to the school office along with your $6.
